Canterbury Hockey are excited to offer a number of upcoming coach development opportunities throughout March and April. If you are coaching in 2019, please make sure you check out the list below and register your interest for any of the workshops or pre-season meetings.

Please note, not all workshops/forums have venues confirmed, but a majority will be held at either Nga Puna Wai, Nunweek Park or Rangi Ruru Turf. Everyone who registers for a course or meeting will receive a confirmation email confirming the venue well in advance.

Youth/Secondary Coach Accreditation Workshop
Venue: Rangi Ruru Turf (Rossall St)
Date: Thursday 21 March
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Target Audience: Platinum and Secondary School Coaches
Presenter: Ben Owers (Community Hockey Manager)

Canterbury Hockey will be delivering the practical component of the Youth/Secondary Coach Accreditation down at Rangi Ruru Turf on Thursday 21 March. The course will cover the below content:

  • Understand why youths play and what’s important to them
  • Further develop knowledge of 11 a-side hockey and playing structures/tactics
  • Introduce athlete centered coaching
  • Develop the ability to facilitate training sessions or activities that empower athletes
  • Develop knowledge on campaign planning and management

CPL, Div 1 Coach/Manager and Senior Club Captain Meeting

Venue: The Elmwood Club (Upstairs)
Date: Tuesday 26 March
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Target Audience: CPL, Division 1 Coach/Managers and Senior Club Captains
Presenters: Canterbury Hockey

Canterbury Hockey would like to invite all CPL, Division 1 coaches/managers and Senior Club Captains along to a pre-season meeting at the Elmwood Club. The purpose of this meeting is to brief coaches, managers and clubs on the 2019 season, including a explanation around 2019 rule changes and a discussion around player, coaches and umpire expectations. Kwik Sticks 11 a-side Coach Meeting

Venue: The Elmwood Club (Upstairs - 83 Heaton St, Strowan, Christchurch 8052)
Date: Thursday 4 April
Time: 6:00-7:00pm
Target Audience: Kwik Sticks 11 a-side Coaches and Junior Club Captains
Presenters: Ben Owers and the Junior Management Committee

Canterbury Hockey would like to invite all Kwik Sticks 11 a-side coaches and Junior Club Captains to attend our pre-season Kwik Sticks 11 a-side coach meeting. The purpose of this meeting is to brief coaches, managers and clubs on the 2019 season, including a explanation around 2019 rule changes and an update on the recommended coaching focuses for this grade. Small Sticks 11 a-side Coach Accreditation Workshop 

Venue: Rangi Ruru (Rossall St)
Date: Sunday 14 April
Time: 12:00-2:00pm
Target Audience: Kwik Sticks 11 a-side coaches
Presenter: Ben Owers (Community Hockey Manager)

Canterbury Hockey will be delivering the practical component of the Small Sticks 11 a-side Coach Accreditation on Sunday 14th April. The course will cover the below content:

  • Understand why children play and how they learn
  • Introduce 11 a-side hockey and basic playing structures/tactics
  • Learn the key skills of 11 a-side hockey
  • Develop the ability to design a variety of session plans utilizing different teaching styles
  • Develop a competent understanding of the rules

Small Sticks 6 a-side Coach Accreditation Workshop

Date: Sunday 28 April
Time: 12:00-2:00pm
Target Audience: Mini,Kiwi and Kwik Sticks 6 a-side coaches
Presenter: Ben Owers (Community Hockey Manager)

Canterbury Hockey will be delivering the practical component of the Small Sticks 6 a-side Coach Accreditation on Sunday 28 April. The course will cover the below content:

  • Understand why children play and how they learn
  • Develop basic knowledge on the core skills and tactical principles of hockey
  • Learn how to teach these core hockey skills
  • Develop the ability to create skill based drills/activities
  • Develop a competent understanding of the rules

Open Grade Coach Accreditation Workshop

Date: Sunday 28th April
Time: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Target Audience: Open Grade Coaches 
Presenter: Chris Leslie (Regional Performance Centre Manager)

Canterbury Hockey will be delivering the practical component of the Open Grade Coach Accreditation on Sunday 7 April. The course will cover the below content:

  • Further develop knowledge on Athlete Centered Coaching
  • Develop a coaching philosophy 
  • Develop an understanding of key playing structures and tactics used in open grade hockey
  • Expand knowledge on effective campaign planning and management
  • Keep up with the game: learn about new skills and rules and how they change the game

Fun Sticks Coaching Workshop

Date: Monday 29 April
Time: 6:00-7:30pm
Target Audience: Fun Sticks Programme Coaches
Presenter: Will Zhou (Community Hockey Officer)

Canterbury Hockey will be delivering a workshop for coaches involved in club Fun Sticks programmes for year 1 and 2 children on Sunday 29 April. The course will cover basic details about the programme and advice on how to deliver it. CLICK HERE TO REGISTER.
