There will be a new name on the Connetics Cup after St. Bede’s College and Timaru Boys’ High School won through to the final of the Connetics Secondary School Premier competition on Friday evening.
St. Bede’s College booked their spot in the final thanks to a hard fought 1-0 victory over Christchurch Boys’ High School, George Baker grabbing the only goal of the game early in the first quarter, firing home a reverse stick shot high into the net.
The match remained even throughout, with neither side able to breakdown the strong defensive units. As Boys High pushed for an equaliser, Bede’s continually repelled, defending two penalty corners after fulltime, the ball flying high over the goal to see St. Bede’s progress through to their second final, five years after their first.
Timaru Boys High School finally broke their semi final curse on their third attempt, an enthralling shootout victory over defending champions St. Andrew’s College turning into the match of the evening.
