Congratulations to the Canterbury U15A Girls who came home with the National U15 Premier Girls trophy and gold medals on Saturday. They finished top of their pool with wins against Otago (6-0), Taranaki (4-0) and Northland (1-0) before following this up with a tough quarter-final 2-1 victory against Waikato. They then backed this up with a nail-biting 2-1 win against Auckland in their semi-final before finishing off a fantastic week with a hard fought 1-0 win against hosts North Harbour in the final. Congratulations to all the girls and Bjorn, Joe and Nicky for an outstanding week.

The Canterbury U15B girls also returned the National U15 Championship trophy to the Canterbury Hockey trophy cabinet for the  sixth year in a row. The team came up against Manawatu (12-0), Thames Valley (7-0), Wanganui (2-3) and Hawkes Bay (4-0) in Pool A before knocking Waikato out of the top 4, winning 4-0 in their quarter-final. After a tough battle with hosts South Canterbury in their semi-final, holding on for the win 2-1, they came up against Wellington in their final, slotting home the winner with 4mins to go on the clock and adding another after Wellington subbed their goalie.

The Canterbury U15A boys were hoping to successfully defend their 2016 title but unfortunately came up short in Nelson. They beat Counties Manakau 8-0, Southland 1-0 and Otago 5-2 to secure top spot in their pool before winning a tough battle with Auckland in their quarter-final eventually winning in extra time. Unfortunately they were then well beaten by Bay of Plenty 6-1 in their semi-final. Their playoff for the bronze medal against Waikato saw them finish 1-1 after regular time and then drop-offs before the lads unfortunately went down 5-4 in the shootout and so finishing 4th.

The Canterbury U15B Boys headed to Invercargill for the National U15 Championship tournament where they came up against West Coast (3-0), Wanganui (0-0) and Wellington (2-2) to finish second in their pool. They then met rivals South Canterbury in the quarter-final and went down 1-2 before following this up with a couple of great wins, beating Manawatu 4-3 and then Poverty Bay 2-0 to finish 5th.

McGrath Tournament - Rotorua

Also, a big congratulations to our Primary B Boys and Girls teams who won the McGrath Tournament in Rotorua. The boys convincingly beat Bay of Plenty 5-1 in their final and the girls shared the trophy with Northland after drawing 0-0 at the end of regular time and then still a draw after dropoffs.
